Protocol P-05, Austria
Bad Gastein is built on terraces around a waterfall that falls straight through the middle of town. Its hotels of the belle époque face the water across a narrow gorge, and warm spring water is piped to the pools of the valley.

Hotel hall, Mariánské Lázně
Indicative price
From CZK 38,900 per person
The price is indicative, per person in a shared double room. A manager confirms the final price when you send a request, because flights and hotel rates move with the season.
The walking on this protocol is the most varied we offer: easy valley paths on two days, a gondola ride and a ridge walk on one, and a long level walk to the end of the valley on another.
Effort profile
Day by day
Day 1
Over the mountains
A morning start from the hotel by minibus via Salzburg, with lunch in the old town. The valley road in the late afternoon.

Bad Gastein
A walk around the waterfall and up the old promenade, then the afternoon in the thermal pools set into the rock.
Day 3
Bad Hofgastein
A level path down the valley to Bad Hofgastein through farm meadows, and the bus back.
Day 4
Stubnerkogel
The gondola to the Stubnerkogel and a ridge walk with a view of the high peaks; a quieter valley walk for those who prefer one.
Day 5

A walk to Böckstein at the head of the valley and the old mining village, then a long evening at the pools.
