Protocol P-04, Hungary
Hévíz is a lake fed from below by a warm spring, so its water stays pleasant even in late autumn. People float in it on rented rings beneath a wooden bath house on stilts, and the surface is covered with water lilies in summer.
Duration
3 days

Season
Apr to Oct

Meet at
Hotel hall, Mariánské Lázně
Indicative price
From CZK 13,900 per person
The price is indicative, per person in a shared double room. A manager confirms the final price when you send a request, because flights and hotel rates move with the season.
This is our shortest protocol and our quietest. There is no climbing, very little walking, and one long drive in each direction, which we break with lunch on the way.
Effort profile
Day by day
Day 1
Drive south
After breakfast we leave by minibus through Austria and reach Hévíz in the late afternoon. A first swim before supper for those who want one.
Day 2
The lake
A morning on the lake from the bath house, an afternoon in Keszthely and the Festetics palace with its library, and an early supper.
Day 3
Back to base
A last swim at opening time, then the road home with a stop for lunch, arriving at the hotel in time for the evening.
What we arrange
- Minibus from the hotel and back
- Two nights in a small hotel near the lake, with breakfast
- Two days of lake entry
- Lunch on both drives
- A leader who drives with the group
What we leave to you
- Suppers, which we book but do not include
- Swimming rings, hired at the lake
- Travel insurance
What to bring
- Swimwear that you do not mind smelling faintly of minerals
- A sun hat for summer and a warm layer for autumn evenings
- Water shoes, as the lake bed is soft peat
The spring water is warm but the air over it is not always. From October, plan on short swims and a warm shower between them.
